CM gives clarion call to avoid plastics
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: Chief Minister Pema Khandu gave a clarion call to the people of the state to shun using plastics and help the government keep the cities and the environment clean and hygienic.
"I humbly submit a memorandum requesting the people as well as business community to shun using plastics and make our state clean and green," Pema said while joining the cleanliness drives across the state capital from Nirjuli to Itanagar on Sunday.
Wishing the people on Gandhi Jayanti, which is being celebrated across the country as the 'Swachh Bharat Diwas', Khandu encouraged everyone to continue with the same spirit of keeping their respective premises clean. Lauding the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said that a clean and open defecation free India would be the best tribute India could pay to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary in 2019, Pema assured full support of the state government to achieve the target.
"It is indeed heartening to see people in huge numbers coming out voluntarily to clean their localities. My appeal is that please keep the spirit and make it a habit to do mass cleanliness drives at least once a week and help Modiji's dream come true," he beckoned.
Citing media reports dubbing Itanagar as the third dirtiest city in the country, Khandu said it is a matter of shame for the citizens.
"It is rather a dubious distinction if it is true. Even if it is not true, it is our duty to keep our city clean and let this day be a purposeful beginning," he said while informing that Rs 1 lakh has been disbursed to each Assembly Constituency in the state to launch the cleanliness campaign in an inclusive manner.
The Chief Minister assured Itanagar Municipal Council to strengthen garbage management in the city with deployment of more men and machines to improve its efficiency in disposal of garbage.
Saying that the government alone cannot manage garbage and keep the city clean, Pema appealed to all to join hands together in the endeavour and make this campaign a mass movement, he said.
Pema also expressed concern over missing dustbins installed only weeks ago from various locations in the twin city. He called for self-introspection and urged people to change their mindsets for the good of the society.
"While the Urban Development Department will oversee the campaign in urban areas, PHE Department will carry the campaign in rural areas," Pema said.
Informing that the Municipal Council has started door-to-door garbage collection since August 8, he appealed to the people to aval the facility and avoid throwing household garbage in nearby streams, drains, rivers or on the streets.
Earlier, Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) submitted a memorandum to the chief minister at Akashdeep.
Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister flagged off the 'Run for Clean Arunachal, Green Arunachal' from Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun to I G Park Itanagar and joined a social service at Nirjuli.
He also launched the 'Clean Lagun River' campaign at Lagun bridge point, joined a social service at Raj Bhavan and Ward No 11, Itanagar besides celebrating Gandhi Jayanti by garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Niti Vihar Gandhi Park.
The Chief Minister also gave away the prizes to the winners of the painting competition organized in run up to the Swachh Bharat Diwas and the 'Run for Clean Arunachal Green Arunachal'.
The chief minister was accompanied by local legislator Techi Kaso, Parliamentary Secretary PD Sona, IMC Chief and Deputy Chief Councillors, Councillors and officers while Urban Development Minister Nabam Rebia joined in the flag off of the marathon.

The Swachh Bharat Mission has turned into people's movement within two years of its launch to make the country clean within 2019 as a befitting tribute to Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.
It is delightful to observe that many prominent leaders including the ministers of both central and state Govts have actively participated in the Swachchta Abhiyan across the country on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. What is more amazing is that a renowned multi-national company has expressed its willingness to offer technical assistance in waste management under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Needless to mention here that even the Rashtrapati Bhawan has stepped in to fulfill its commitment towards Swachh Bharat.
Coming back home, it is good to see that people of Arunachal Pradesh including the leaders in power have come to the street to make the Mission a grand success.
Former Arunachal Governor J J Singh had on more than one occasion put emphasis on "clean and plastic free" Arunachal during his tenure even before the launch of Swachh Bharat Mission. Had the people of the state and state machinery paid heed to the call of the Governor, the people could have seen a different Arunachal today with more green cover and clean cities.
One wonders, why we should wait for a call from someone to make our city neat and clean.
Is it not a responsibility of every citizen to make our surrounding clean and preserve healthy environment?
There are more than seven thousand registered and un-registered non-government and community based organizations in the state. Most of them are taking up the issues including lack of school infrastructure and shortage of teachers apart from bottleneck in road connectivity. The organizations should also play active role in maintaining cleanliness. The Govt machinery should make plan and programme to encourage the NGOs with remuneration so that they make it a routine exercise for clean Arunachal.
Moreover, since the Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) is gearing up to find the Itanagar in smart city list, their responsibility towards making the gateway of Arunachal clean is paramount. Both the Municipalities in Itanagar and Pasighat should chalk out effective plan not only about garbage management but to educate the people about the need of clean cities.
Ering writes to HM on dams
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: Amidst reports of construction of dams by China in Tibet to block tributaries of Brahmaputra, MP East Ninong Ering has written to the union home minister Rajnath Singh seeking his intervention in the matter.
Chinese transgression in Kibitoo in Anjaw district and construction of dams by China in Tibet region to block tributaries of Brahmaputra is not in good taste in the framework of present geopolitics. The present tension after the surgical attack is a reason of concern for people in Arunachal, he wrote in his letter.
He also brought up the issue of granting stapled visa to the people of Arunachal by China saying it needs to be resolved immediately.
Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo conferred Guru Title
PASIGHAT, Oct 2: Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo was formally conferred the Title of ' Guru' (Lambona) at Engo Takar Dere on Sunday, as the leading light of all the Indigenous faiths of AP.
The announcement of the conferment was made by Minister DoTCL, Agriculture, Trade and Commerce, Wangki Lowang on the occasion of "Guru Diwas" (Lambona Longa) celebration.
The Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) and Central Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang jointly oragnised the day long -celebration,
which was attended by Indigenous faith believers from various parts of the state including from neighbouring Assam.
Lowang, paying his tribute to the pioneer of the indigenous faith movement in the state said “we must value and be proud of our own culture and traditions and our indigenous faith inherited since time immemorial. While the Almighty God is One, we follow different path practiced in the form of various faiths.”
He further called upon , IFCSAP (Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of AP) to strengthen and broaden their activities by promoting Indigenous music, costumes, architectures, food and medicines. We must also popularize our indigenous crafts and produces which are also part of our rich cultural heritage, he said. He also called for cultural exchange to promote oneness and brotherhood among various Indigenous faiths.
Lowang also called for the active participation of the youth, urging them to contribute for the promotion of their rich cultural heritage. He also asked them compose Music and lyrics for preservation and promotion of Indigenous Art forms.
Local MLA Kaling Moyong, also paid tribute on the occasion and said that Golgi BoteTalom Rukbo worked tirelessly for the revival and reformation of Indigenous faiths. The Indigenous faiths are the oldest faith in the world, he said.
Stressing on preservation of Indigenous languages, he expressed concern that the young generation today are losing touch with own languages. In this regard, Moyong urged IFCSAP to play a major role for the preservation and promotion of Indigenous languages through various initiatives.
IFCSAP President, Dr. Ligu Tacho who earlier declared Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo as Guru of the IFCSAP , also said that Guru Golgi Bote showed the way for the Indigenous faiths of the state in the state and the country in general.
Earlier, highlighting on the significance of the Day, Litterateur, Dr. Kaling Borang said that Golgi Bote devoted his life for the development of Traditional Faith and Culture.
His initiatives awakened the minds of the people and as a result, Indigenous Faith and Culture are being practiced more vigorously than before, thus paving the way of their spiritual path.
Donyi Polo Spiritual Society was formed under his guidance and he also reached out various Indigenous faith and extended his helping hand to rejuvenate their age old religious practices and reformation. He also reached out to the Misings in Assam and visited Mising Villages and spread the message of Donyi Polo, which met with enthusiastic response.
The Newly constructed Engo Takar Dere ,Central Donyi Polo YelamKebang (CDPYK) was also inaugurated on the occasion.
Secy Gen Bai Taba underlined the role of Golgi Bote ,terming the Day as a joyous occasion, while Gichik Taza, VP,IFCSAP, said that as the various communities of the state in their indigenous faith have different names for the One who shows the path, a common consensus was arrived for choosing the Guru Title.

Arunachal joins Swachh Bharat Mission
ITANAGAR, Oct, 02: Arunachal Pradesh joined Swachh Bharat Mission to commemorate the 147th birth anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
Swachh Bharat Mission was launched on October 2 in 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has turned into a national movement. The main objective is to make India clean and open defecation free by providing sanitation facilities to every family, including toilets, solid and liquid waste disposal systems, village cleanliness, and safe and adequate drinking water supply by 2019.
Meanwhile, reports of cleanliness drives and awareness rallies to generate public awareness on the importance of maintaining high degree of health and sanitation practices, cleanliness are pouring in from nook and corner of the state.
Reports of celebration of Swachh Bharat Mission have so far been received from almost all the district headquarters, circle/sub-divisional/ADC headquarters including Aalo, Ziro-Hapoli, Tawang, Yingkiong, Changlang, Roing, Namsai, Daporijo, Geku, Ruksin, Mahadevpur, Jengging, Doimukh, Happy Club Daporijo.
Cleanliness drives and quiz/painting competitions etc under Swachh Bharat Mission commemorating birthday of Gandhiji were also organized by various NGOs, students' unions, schools and colleges, including NCC and NSS units of Government College Bomdila, Galo Students' Union of JNC unit, Rajiv Gandhi University Students' Union, Govt. Secondary School P Sector Itanagar, Govt. Upper Primary School, Adi Ningroo, Namsai 'Longchang Elite Society' at Changlang, Jering-Matkir Society at Kaying town, Jigaon based NGO Zgang Depga, YUVA Arunachal in Tawang,
The SBM was also organized at Seppa by PHE&WSD in collaboration with the EKSWCO at Seppa, Pakoti and Kakukao.
At Seppa, the swachh rally started from Circuit House and culminated at General Ground Seppa.
More than three thousand school children, public, govt. officials and NGOs took part in the rally and pledged for the promotion of sanitation and hygiene.
Participating in the programme, East Kameng DC Rajeev Takuk urged everyone to promote and inculcate the habit of living healthy and hygienic life.
EKSWCO Chairman Safar Pao highlighted about the importance of sanitation in daily life.
Meanwhile, East Kameng district unit of BJP conducted a social service as part of Gandhi Jayanti celebration at DIPRO Office Seppa.
The party workers and DIPRO staff cleaned the office and its compound. They later took a pledge to keep the district clean and hygiene.
In East Siang, the Swachhta Pakhwada and Swachh Bharat Week came to end with celebration of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and distribution of dustbins and organization of cleanliness drive at Pasighat main market on Saturday.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, MLA Kaling Moyong, DC East Siang Isha Khosla, Chief Councillor Kaling Doruk, Principal JNC, TayekTalom, Medical Superintendent, General Hospital Pasighat, Yater Ringu Darrang paid tribute to the statue of the Father of the Nation at Gandhi Chowk. MLA, DC, Chief Councillor also distributed dustbins for installation in General Hospital, , Market area, JNC and various schools premises in Pasighat. Members of Pasighat Market Welfare Society, students of various schools also participated in the cleanliness drive.
In another event, MLA Moyong inaugurated the recently built New Market complex at Pasighat Bazar amidst huge gathering.
Along with the rest of state, the inhabitants of Damsite Colony, Naharlagun on October 1 and 2 also took out a mega cleanliness drive to commemorate the second anniversary of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Led by AAPPTF general secretary Gyamar Talik as the organizing chairman and one Tai Subita as the secretary, the residents of the colony cleaned the entire stretch of area from St Thomas School to Government Middle Elementary School, Damsite.
Honour for RN Koley
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: In an impressive function organized by Itanagar Mebobian Welfare Kebang on occasion of its 3rd foundation day at Itanagar, Advisor, Adi Bane Kebang and General Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society Batem Pertin handed over a citation and memento, presented by Mega Solung Festival Committee, Pasighat 2016 to Assistant Director of Research (Culture) R N Koley, for rendering outstanding contributions and brilliant services towards the Adi society in general and the Central Solung festival celebration, Pasighat.
Koley could not receive the citation and memento formally presented by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on the concluding day of Mega Solung festival held from 9th to 13th September last at Pasighat due to his ailing health.
General secretary (IMWK) and under secretary to the Governor, Bapir Megu read out the citation which revealed - "Koley, a versatile writer and social worker, has been uninterruptedly writing on subject matter relating to tribal concern, especially on Adis. His track record itself is the testimony of the crucial and pioneering role in the CSFC, Pasighat at a time when it needed a resource person and an experienced hand to deal with affairs connected with the celebration of Central Solung Festival at Pasighat.
In his response, R N Koley said, "It is the generosity of the Adi people. I am really overwhelmed to receive love and affection shown to me by those at the helm of Adi society."
Among others, Jopak Tayeng, former Director Accounts and Treasuries, Mijing Tayeng, Dy Director, Disaster Management, Sonyong Modi, Dy Director Trade & Commerce, Ajam Mengu, Dy Director, Horticulture and Dr Opok Pertin, medical officer were present in the function.
Jamoh hands over ambulance to Ruksin CHC

RUKSIN, Oct 2: An ambulance provided by the Health Department was handed over to Community Health Centre (CHC), Ruksin in East Siang district by Pasighat-West MLA Tatung Jamoh on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering at Ruksin CHC on occasion, Jamoh urged the hospital authority to make good use of the vehicle and take proper care of it for the welfare of the public. He also urged the local people to cooperate with the hospital authority for smooth running of the ambulance.
The ambulance is specially meant for maternal and child health care purposes, informed East Siang District Medical Officer Dr Mandip Perme. He hoped the ambulance service will minimize maternal and infant mortality rate in the vulnerable area. He also informed that demand has been placed for granting Sub-divisional hospital status to Ruksin CHC. Dr Perme is optimistic that the modernized ambulance service will minimize maternal & infant mortality rate in the vulnerable area.
The ambulance is equipped with all facilities to support child delivery inside it (in case of emergency). It was procured with fund sanctioned under 13th Finance Commission, informed Retired Joint Director of Health Service Dr T Taloh, who was also OSD to State's Health & Family Welfare Department. He further informed that Rs 3 lakh per year was recommended by the Department for maintenance of the ambulance.
Senior medical officer O Moyong highlighted the background of Ruksin CHC which has been later upgraded to FRU in 2005.
Earlier medical officer-in-charge of Ruksin Community Health Centre, Dr K Jonnom urged the local MLA to manage fund for procuring a DG (generator) set besides fund for erection of the hospital gate to which the MLA assured to grant during next financial year.
Ruksin block ZPM Tonggeng Panyang requested all concerned to avail benefit of the ambulance service.
It is pertinent to mention here that for Governor JP Rajkhowa visited Ruksin CHC during March this year and expressed his concern over its poor infrastructure and health care facilities.
Later, he approached the State government for providing infrastructure and required health care facilities for the health centre.
Present on the occasion, among others, were District Reproductive & Child Health Officer Dr T Gao, medical staff, local PRI leaders, Gaon Burahs and government officials.
Seva Dal launches social media seminar campaign
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal (APCSD) launched the "Social media seminar campaign" (How to connect people) coinciding with the 147th birth anniversary celebration of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
The programme was launched by APCC General Secretary Nani Rajen in presence of APCSD Chief Organiser Kipa Kaha and Pradesh Mahila Organizer Yata Garam Margin at Indira Gandhi Bhawan, Naharlagun.
Earlier, floral tributes were paid to the decorated portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri by the leaders and party workers of APCSD, APCC, APMCC, NSUI and APYC led by APCC General Secretary Nani Rajen, APYC Vice President Niglar Veo.
Kipa Kaha exhorted the party workers and cadres to follow the Gandhiji's path of non -violence and resolve difference in peaceful manner.
Nani Rajen remembered Lal Bahadur Shastri’s slogan "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan" to enthuse the soldiers to defend India and simultaneously cheering farmers to do their best to increase the production of food grains to reduce dependency on others.
Niglar Veo explained the vitality and important rule played by social media, which has become a very important tool in disseminating messages. He advised party workers and cadres to make good use of technology. At the same time, he cautioned them to refrain from misusing this media.
NHPC unveils bust of Mahatma Gandhi at VKV, Dollungmukh
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: Executive Director of Subansiri Lower Project, Rakesh unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at Vivekananda Kendra Vidhyalaya (VKV), Dollungmukh on Sunday and paid floral tribute to the legendary freedom fighter.
On the occasion, a cultural programme was presented by the students of the VKV.
Speaking on the occasion, Rakesh remembered the immense sacrifices made by 'Bapu' and his great contribution to country's Independence. He appealed to all the students and the staff to follow the teachings of Gandhiji and follow his principles of non-violence and simplicity.
During the function, apart from locals and staff of NHPC, Dy. Commandant of CISF, Principal and staff of VKV Dollungmukh, In-charge of Dollungmukh Police Station also paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation.
A plantation drive was also organized at the school on the occasion.
Prior to that, Gandhi Jayanti was also celebrated at Kendriya Vidhyalaya, NHPC Gerukamukh where Executive Director, Subansiri Lower Project Rakesh and other officers of NHPC along with teachers and students of the school paid floral tribute to the Father of the Nation.
As part of the day's celebration, cleanliness drive was organized by NHPC at Moharicamp area of Dhemaji district wherein the members of the Moharicamp Merchant Association and residents of the area alongwith NHPC's staff took part in the drive and also paid floral tribute to Gandhiji's statue.
Keeping in mind Gandhiji's dream for a green and clean India and Prime Minister's vision for Swachh Bharat, Dustbins for bio-degradable and non-bio degradable wastes were also distributed amongst the residents of Subansiri Lower Project at Gerukamukh.

United Changlang Sporting Club wins opener
CHANGLANG, Oct 2: United Changlang Sporting Club edged past Government Higher Secondary School, Changlang 1-0 in the opening match of the Wangnia Pongte Memorial Football Tournament, which got off to a colorful start at general ground here on Sunday.
The match was evenly poised until Hunmay Khimhun scored in 50th minutes.
Parliamentary Secretary (Planning) Chow Zingnu Namchoom, who kicked off the tournament amidst huge crowd of soccer fans, exhorted the youth to channelize their excessive energy towards healthy direction by taking part in games and sports activities. Showing his concern over growing numbers of drug addicts he advised youth to stay away from this social menace.
He suggested forming the District Football Association and get it affiliated to State Football Association stating that recognized players can avail jobs reserved for meritorious sports persons.
Earlier, Nampong MLA Laisam Simai remembered Late W Pongte and his contribution towards Tutsa society and Changlang district as a whole.
He urged participating players to maintain sportsman spirit and play the game with full passion in a professional way. He urged them to maintain discipline.
Chairman of the organizing committee K Kanglom in his key note address expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu for his moral support in organizing the tournament.

Four Arunachalees selected for weightlifting
HYDERABAD, Oct 2: The Boys Sports Company (BSC) of Army Ordnance Corps (AOC), Secunderabad has officially taken over the charge for training four Arunachalee boys. Four boys were selected by the Company during talent hunt program conducted all over India for 2015 -16 informed General Secretary, Arunachal Weightlifting Association Daniel Teli.
Hailing the majestic roles of Arunachal Weightlifting Association, Dy. Commandant, Lt. Col. Maneesh Basera said that the officials will visit the state again in Arunachal next year.
Teli said that the boys will be recruited in the Army later.
Inter club badminton tournament
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: `Kipa Menya and Kipa Tai memorial inter club badminton tournament in association with the Naharlagun Badminton Club is being held from Oct 3- 6. The tournament is being sponsored by former MLA capital Complex Kipa Babu. All together 35 teams from various clubs of Naharlagun township are expected to take part in the tournament. The players are going to compete under different events and categories. Cash prize with trophy will be awarded to the winners informed Chairman Organizing Committee J. Ette.
VVFC lift Vishwakarma Running Football Trophy
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: Vivek Vihar Football Club (VVFC) lifted the 22nd Vishwakarma Running Football Trophy-2016 defeating High Spirit United Football Club, Chimpu 2-1 in the final at KV No 2 playground, Chimpu near here on Sunday.
Rigio Topu and Kelvin Jamoh scored 1 goal each for VVFC while Tomas Ada scored one goal for HSUFC.
Kanu Rai of VVFC was declared the best player while Dado Sam of the same team was adjudged as the best goal keeper,
Techi Talar of HSUFC was adjudged the best Defender while Tsering Sherpa of Young Generetion FC became the highest scorer of the tournament.
Lokam Jambo was adjudged as "Emerging player of the year". The award for best coach went to Likha Jaknik.
The winning team VVFC was awarded cash prize of Rs. 66,666 along with the Trophy while the Runners up HSUFC was awarded cash prize of Rs. 33,333 along with a trophy. The 2nd Runners up KKFC was awarded Rs. 11,111 along with trophy.
The prizes to the winner, runners up and individual achievers were given away by ZPM Borum Panchayat Adv. Techi Tolu and Chairman of Arunachal Pradesh Women Football Committee cum President of All Arunachal Pradesh Poor People Union Kipa Niba.
A total of 25 teams from Capital Complex area participated in the tournament which started on September 11.
Earlier, kicking off the final match, Borum ZPM Techi Tolu encouraged the youths towards sports and make career out of it by sincerely and seriously pursuing it.

IAF selects 27 youths
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: 27 youths of Arunachal Pradesh has been selected to join as Airmen in the Indian Air Force at a Recruitment Rally that concluded on Sunday at Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar.
The selected candidates have to go through a final medical examination which would be held in the month of January at Tezpur.
The venue for the next Rally is Tezu, scheduled to be held on Oct 5.
Commanding Officer, IAF Sqn Ldr VPV Baliga, has appealed to the youths of the state who could not appear here at Itanagar to try their luck at Tezu. Baliga further stressed that the Rally has been organised exclusively for the youths of Arunachal Pradesh. DIPRO
ACS calls for foolproof policy
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: The Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has called for a foolproof policy in appointment of OSDs and deputation of officers to other departments to ensure that parent department does not suffer.
While many lecturers and teachers are being appointed as OSDs and deputed to other departments in various capacities, their parent department tends to face lack of manpower, it said in a release questioning the reason behind making such appointments.
Not only this, even Ministers, MLAs and Officers are keeping OSDs whereas Government has sufficient PSs, PSOs, SPAs, PAs who are well versed with official matter, ACS further said.
Banderdewa to Hollongi to be made high security zone
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: The State Government will soon declare the area from Banderdewa to Hollongi a high security zone with a surveillance system in place, said Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
Police Stations in Itanagar and Naharlagun will have surveillance sub-centres and a master control room will be set up at SP capital office, Pema said while addressing the business community during the cleanliness drive here on Sunday.
"While the Government will install surveillance system in all public places, I request the business community to install CCTV cameras in their respective business establishments and residences. This will help the police in curbing crimes in the city," he said, while assuring their full safety and security.
Lowang and Jamoh inspects offices

PASIGHAT, Oct 2: To take stock of the various hurdles faced by department of agriculture here in Pasighat, the Minister of Agriculture, Wangki Lowang accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary, Agriculture, Er. Tatung Jamoh inspected the various agriculture offices in Pasighat and GTC today.
Lowang and Jamoh interacted with employees and tried to know the department's assistance and guidance to the farmers and also heard their grievances. One of the requirements asked by the department is a transformer.
Meanwhile, Lowang assured to take up the demands with the government.
Books distributed to school children
YAZALI, Oct 2: Yachuli Constituency Employed Forum (YCEF) distributed thousand of books for students of class IX, X, XI & XII at Yazali Higher Secondary School.
Speaking on the occasion YCEF President TD Neckom said that the books which have been provided to the students should be passed on to the others once they qualifies for the next class. A total of 690 students have been provided with books.
The distribution of books to students of govt school was necessitated as the department have not released adequate books.
Bamin Tani Memorial literary competitions
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: Commemorating the birth anniversary of late Bamin Tani, former principal of Govt Hr Sec School, Ziro, the alumni of 2007-08 batch on Sunday organized 2nd Bamin Tani Memorial inter school literary competitions at GHSS, Ziro.
Speaking in the event, Chief patron of the 2nd Bamin Tani memorial badminton tournament and inter school literary competitions, Hibu Tama, Principal of school briefed the contributions of late Bamin Tani. He appreciated the way late principal ran the school administration during his time.
While appreciating the organizing team for conducting such events, he urged the others alumni batch to support the events.
Altogether, 65 students from 13 schools participated in essay writing and extempore speech competitions. The Badminton tournament will be held from October 6-8.
Nikon India conducts workshop
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: Nikon India in association with Multi Brand Outlet, Itanagar successfully conducted a two days workshop on Oct 1-2. The theme of the workshop was basic DSLR and Photowalk which were organized at Hotel Todo and Itanagar Monastery respectively.
The Nikon India Mentor Shayak Raychaudhury who had come all the way from Kolkata walked the participants through various DSLR photography methods, tips and tricks.
The Arunachal Photography Club President Halley Welly encouraged the participants as he thanked the Nikon India Members Kishore Kumar Kalita, Niluttam Chakrabarty and Shayak Ray Choudhury for taking out time to conduct the workshop.
This was the fourth workshop conducted by Nikon India in Arunachal Pradesh. More events are in offing for the state, said Nikon representatives.
Yesterdrive kicks off Rocktober fest
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: Yesterdrive kicked off the second edition of the annual Rocktoberfest last night with much success. Performing at The Green Street (TGS), the alt-rock band played some of their biggest hits including 'Charity Case' and introduced their latest song 'Control'.
Later fingerstyle guitarist Gammi Nasi, Terrace Project and Dj remixes from DJ Bomb set TGS on fire with their performance in presence of the record crowd.
As part of the kick-off programme, a lucky draw was also organized which one Rakesh Pada had won. He received a high-end smartphone from the Vivo mobile, the title sponsors of the fest.
The next event will be at the Poong Nest on October 8 and the fest will conclude on October 27 with a performance by Eric Martin, lead singer of the now disbanded Mr Big.
Model United Nations workshop
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: The Arunachal Pradesh Model United Nations on Sunday held a workshop at Saint Claret College, Ziro in preparation for the upcoming NEIMUN Conference. Thirty eight participants drawn from three institutions - Frontier School, Hills Queen School, and Saint Claret College - participated in the intensive workshop.
North East India International Model United Nations (NEIMUN) is a non-profit educational foundation that aims at training a generation of young leaders to develop functional understanding of the United Nations, and mature and informed perspectives on social responsibility and human issues around the world. The fourth edition of the NEIMUN Conference will be held at Dimapur from October 22 to 24. The one-day workshop at Saint Claret College was organized with a view to ensuring informed and active participation from the Arunachal youth at the Conference. The workshop team consisted of Nabam Tubin, Misso Anu, and Yami Landi, active members of the NEIMUN.
The workshop focused on aims and objectives of NEIMUN as well as familiarizing the students with the roles they have to play in the upcoming conference. The delegates to NEIMUN will be assigned the roles of ambassadors of various countries and drafted into various committees which will have the task of preparing position papers and have their resolutions passed before the Model United Nations.
The participants of the workshop expressed their excitement about the conference and desire to be selected as delegates. Fr. Paulson, Principal of Saint Claret College, expressed the willingness of the college to establish a Ziro Model United Nations (Ziro MUN) to provide greater scope of participation for more number of students and sustained interest in NEIMUN.
Waii inspects PTC
ITANAGAR, Oct 02: Home Minister Kumar Waii along with Parliamentary Secretary Pani Taram and Director General of Police S Nithianandam inspected the Police Training Centre at Banderdewa on Friday. Both leaders took stock of the infrastructures and other basic facilities at the training Centre. The Home Minister assured to look into the problem being faced by the training centre including drinking water supply.
BJP joins Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: The Arunachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party under the aegis of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha organized a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Programme at Ganga Market area upto RK Mission gate to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
After the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a function was organized at the Clock Tower Ganga Market area in which floral tributes were offered to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi by the BJP workers.
The state Vice President Dominic Tadar called for a complete clean Arunachal by 2019.

SDSU draws attention on lack of facilities
ITANAGAR, Oct 2: The Siang District Students' Union (SDSU) has drawn the attention of state government over lack of basic facilities in the newly created Siang district.
In its memorandum submitted to the chief secretary, the union while demanding for posting doctor and staffs at CHC Boleng, circle officer, medical officer and other staffs at Payum circle, teachers at Govt. Middle School Payum, has warned that it would take up democratic movement if the demands are not fulfilled. The union claimed that concern authorities have turned blind eye to their various representations submitted earlier.
Its other demands include early completion of Bille to Migging defence road, enquiry into CSS, SS and BADP Schemes implemented during 2010 to 2016 and instruction for proper implementation of the schemes and eviction of illegal land encroacher from the school premises of the district.
Literary competition
ITANAGAR, Oct 02: Banderdewa Karsingsa Youth Welfare Association (BKYWA) organized a circle level literary competition as part of Gandhi Jayanti celebration at Govt. Middle School, Karsingsa.
Quiz, drawing, extempore speech competition on Mahatma Gandhi and various other literary activities organized among the students of both government and private schools during the two-day programme, which concluded on Sunday.
Winners were given prizes in form of trophies and certificates by the organization.
Students, youths, teachers, panchayat leaders, elders and AAPSU, ANSU representatives and well-wishers of the area attended the programme.

Water treaty is need of the hour
For long what India feared has finally come true. China recently announced that it is blocking a tributary of the Brahmaputra River in Tibet as part of the construction of a hydro power project. This has caused great concern among the people of North East India. Majority of rivers that flows into NE region originates from China. If they start constructing dam on these rivers it will greatly impact the whole region. India has for long feared that China might construct dam on rivers originating from their country and use it as leverage against India.
China still lays claim over Arunachal Pradesh and refuses to accept it as part of
India. Chinese army regularly intrudes into Indian Territory in Arunachal and Ladakh.
They also openly back Pakistan at various international forums. It seems Chinese
are now all set to use water as means to bargain with India over various contentious
issues. By constructing dam in one of the tributary of Brahmaputra they have taken
the first step in this regard. India really will have to gear up and get ready for
the water war. The biggest problem for India is that there is no water treaty between
two countries. In October 2013 the two governments signed a memorandum of understanding

All of a sudden this month onwards, Power Department started to slap common people with very highly exaggerated electricity bills to consumers where department has not fit meters.
It is 400 % to 800% higher than the existing tariffs. The present monthly bill in

Open letter to law makers
Dear Editor,
Through your esteem daily, I on the behalf of unemployed science graduates & post graduates of Arunachal would like to express the resentment on 50:50 reservation policy as desired by the State government when there is reservation policy of 80:2 in state.
It indicates that our state does not have sufficient science and mathematics graduates and post graduates. It is well known that Arunachal has the largest unemployed youth according to population ratio even though we know that population of Arunachal is less.
Every year J.N college and DNG college alone produces hundreds of science and mathematics graduates which is ample indication that there is no need for reservation policy of 50:50.
During my school and college days, our seniors told us that science graduates and post graduates will get job. But today, despite having M.Sc, B.ed degree with CTET and APTET qualification, there is no job.
During recently concluded TGT & PGT examination, for a single post in PGT physics, 28 candidates appeared and for a nine posts in PGT mathematics, 129 candidates appeared.
I would like to urges the CM, Education Minister, and law makers of Arunachal Pradesh to reconsider the 50:50 reservation policy If they are really concerned about unemployment in Arunachal.
